The UCT GSB were looking for a way to communicate their success stories, news about people development, and general growth to all members of the GSB family. Together we came up with the idea of starting a newsletter, called Jailhouse Rocks. The name is incredibly apt and fun given that the Business School is built on an old prison site. And this has influenced the style. Since the first issue in 2009, the Rothko team has written and compiled the monthly newsletter capturing interesting and exciting stories using a light and fun tone.

Yizani Magazine
Yizani Magazine
Client: UCT's Department of Marketing and Communications
Create a fun and inspirational magazine. That was the brief from the UCT Marketing and Communications Department who wanted to promote all UCT's undergraduate courses and student facilities. Knowing that readers would be Grade 11 and 12 students, we created the magazine, design and copy, to appeal to a young audience. It was the first time a UCT publication featured current UCT students, and we combined the photos with fun graphics and images. The result was an informative, and exciting magazine for learners looking to choose their higher education institution.
Refugee Rights Project Booklet
Refugee Rights Project Booklet
Client: UCT Faculty of Law Department
The refugee rights project operates within the Faculty of Law at the University of Cape Town and offers crucial legal services to the growing number of refugees and asylum seekers in South Africa. The rights booklet is a guide on how to get through the asylum procedure, the rights refugees and asylum seekers enjoy in South Africa, and the systems that have been put in place to assist them. The booklet contains a great deal of information, so a clean and clear design style was necessary. We used colour to help divide the book into sections and to assist in navigation. We also decided that an A5 format booklet would best suit the target users because it is small enough to easily fit into pockets and bags.
